How it works

Every ART session is both
an examination and a treatment.

01
Evaluate the tissue

Dr. Beth uses her hands to assess the texture, tightness, and movement of the affected muscle, tendon, or nerve — finding exactly where the adhesion or restriction is hiding.

02
Apply directed tension

Precise contact is made on the restricted tissue while you actively move through a specific range of motion. This shearing force breaks up scar tissue structurally — not just temporarily.

03
Restore normal movement

Once the adhesion releases, tissue glides freely again — nerves stop being compressed, muscles fire correctly, and pain decreases. Most patients feel a difference within the first session.

Regular massage or stretching

Feels good.
But doesn't fix
the structure.

  • —General tension relief, temporary results
  • —Doesn't target specific adhesions or scar tissue
  • —Can't treat nerve entrapments
  • —No active movement component
  • —Results often don't hold session to session

Active Release Techniques®

Targets the
actual problem.
Results that hold.

  • ✓Precisely targets the specific adhesion or restriction
  • ✓Treats nerve entrapments — carpal tunnel, sciatica, and more
  • ✓Active movement breaks up scar tissue structurally
  • ✓Results build and hold session to session
  • ✓Patented, evidence-based protocol used by elite sports teams worldwide

What we treat

If it's been labelled "chronic"
or "just something you have to manage" —
ART is worth trying.

Plantar fasciitis
Chronic heel and arch pain that won't resolve with rest or stretching
Achilles tendinopathy
Stiffness and pain in the Achilles that keeps coming back
IT band syndrome
Outer knee pain in runners and cyclists that flares on longer efforts
Rotator cuff
Shoulder pain, impingement, and restricted overhead motion
Shin splints
Lower leg pain from overuse or sudden training load increases
Carpal tunnel
Wrist pain and numbness — often a nerve entrapment, not a wrist problem
Hip flexor tightness
Chronic tightness that stretching never fully resolves
Tennis/golfer's elbow
Lateral or medial elbow tendinopathy from repetitive use
Sciatic nerve pain
Nerve entrapment causing shooting pain down the leg
Patellar tendinopathy
Knee pain below the kneecap common in runners and jumpers
Neck tightness
Chronic tension and restricted rotation from posture or overuse
Post-surgical scar tissue
Restricted movement and pain after surgery or significant injury

She is a rare provider who combines traditional chiropractic with deep tissue work like Active Release Techniques. Dr. Beth can often accomplish in 15–30 minutes what others require 60 minutes or even multiple sessions to achieve. If you want a chiropractor at the forefront of the field, Dr. Beth is the real deal.

Common questions

Everything you want
to know before you come in.

How is ART different from a regular adjustment?
An adjustment works on joints — restoring normal motion between vertebrae or extremity joints. ART works on the soft tissue around those joints — muscles, tendons, fascia, and nerves. They're complementary. Most patients receive both in the same visit because results last longer when the joint and surrounding tissue are both addressed.
Does it hurt?
ART can feel intense — patients often describe a "good hurt" similar to deep tissue massage. The pressure is specific and purposeful, and Dr. Beth adjusts intensity based on your feedback. Most people feel immediate improvement in movement or pain after the session, even if there's mild soreness the next day.
How many sessions will I need?
Most acute issues resolve in 4–6 sessions. Chronic problems that have been present for years may take 6–10. Dr. Beth reassesses every visit — if you're not progressing, the plan changes. You'll never be kept on a treatment plan longer than needed.
Is ART covered by insurance?
ART is billed as manual therapy (97140) and covered by most insurance plans that include chiropractic benefits. Medicare covers spinal manual therapy during active care only — extremity ART is private-pay. We'll go over your specific coverage at your first visit so there are no surprises.
Can ART help if I've already tried PT?
Yes — and this is one of the most common reasons people come to Front Runner. PT focuses on strengthening and rehab exercise. ART addresses the structural soft tissue restrictions that often prevent strengthening from working. Many patients who plateau in PT see significant progress once the underlying adhesions are cleared.
Can it be combined with Shockwave or EMTT?
Absolutely — and this combination is one of the most powerful things we offer. Shockwave and EMTT restart healing in chronically damaged tissue, while ART clears the adhesions that built up around the injury. Together they address both the structure and the healing environment. Many patients see faster results with the combined approach than with either alone.
